Korean BBQ with twist.
KalBQ (pronounced “Kal-bee-cue”), New York City’s first Korean fusion fast casual restaurant, is set to officially launch in Manhattan at 36 Lexington Avenue (between 23rd and 24th street) this Friday, July 14, 2011. Its founder, Q Park, created KalBQ, a modern day take on Korean cuisine, with the idea of introducing Korean flavors in a familiar format and as a healthy, delicious alternative to traditional “fast food.” The restaurant’s name, KalBQ, is itself a fusion of short rib beef used in traditional Korean barbecue and the western abbreviation for barbecue. KalBQ’s menu includes the Bibim Rice Bowl, a take on the signature Korean dish (traditionally served with warm white rice topped with vegetables, beef and chili pepper paste) but completely customizable with choice of rices, vegetables, sauces, and meats (or vegetables/tofu). In addition, the menu includes a fusion section with dishes such as sliders, kimchi quesadillas, wraps and the wildly popular Korean taco which has become a phenomenon in recent years. The restaurant also has plenty of non-meat alternatives for vegetarians. The company launched its first location at the Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus, NJ.
“Born and raised in New York and growing up in a cross section of Korean parents and an American society, I’m just excited to infuse and introduce. Other Asian cuisines have become a staple in American culture; yet so many people are still missing out on Korean flavor. The food is tastes amazing and is a great balance of Korean food and American culture. Best of all, it's healthy too.” said Q Park.
