Lawn care does not have to be difficult, you just have to understand what you need to do. If not done correctly you can have weeds overtaking your yard. Some tips to make it look better is to make sure you fertilize your lawn, properly water it, don't mow it to short, and make sure you get rid of any weeds. Grass needs nutrients over the seasons and if you don’t fertilize it won’t sustain the way it should. Generally your lawn needs 4-6 feedings a year depending on your location. Likewise if you don’t give your lawn enough water, or water it the wrong way you are going to prevent it from looking its best. You should water your lawn less frequently, but for longer periods of time when you do water it. During hot summer months your lawn will require more water. Also if you mow too short you can “scalp” your lawn meaning you cut down so much that it only leaves a patch of dirt. Make sure to set your mower at the correct height. You should never move more than 1/3 of your grass each time you go over it with a mower. Each type of grass grows best at different heights but most are between 3-4 inches. Getting rid of weeds in your yard is extremely important because having just one weed can cause a huge problem as seeds from that week can blow into your yard causing more weed problems. They need to be killed as soon as possible before they spread. It’s also important to note that you should have realistic expectations for your lawn. Sometimes it can take a lot of time to get your yard in tip top shape. New seed can take 1 to 2 weeks to germinate and additional weeks to start filling in.
