Jay’s Cheesesteak started when Jay was 27 years old on October 15, 1997. The store was a cafe and Jay changed it to Jay’s Cheesesteak. Working in delis and cafes all his life, he saved up and opened his shop! The Mission didn’t have a store like it and Jay found his spot at the corner of 21st and Valencia in the Mission District of San Francisco. 5 years later Jay wanted to expand and opened his second location and named it Jay’s Cheesesteak 2 located at Divisadero between Fell and Hayes. Ever since, San Francisco has been blessed with a new home for the cheesesteak, Jay’s Cheesesteak.
