Who we are
We are best friends of over 15 years brought together by a love of cooking and food. We originally met in Darwin, Northern Territory, a multicultural melting pot.
Two generations of our families are the heart and soul of this family business. We collectively inspire, create, cook, bake and in every other way are hands on in bringing you a casual yet special feeling when dining with us.
Our menu reflects our families’ combined heritage. Mie Mie was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. Prue was born in Adelaide, Australia. Mie Mie cooks by touch, feel and taste – she cooks from the heart. Prue’s speciality is desserts and baking as well as vegetarian dishes.
In the midst of all the challenges we faced in renovating the restaurant, it was a complete miracle to get doors open by Jan 12. Our goal to honour Jan 12 open date was for Oxfam's Stop Hunger Appeal and "...to commemorate the anniversary of the Brisbane Floods and celebrate the resilience of our community by paying it forward to those less fortunate than ourselves.” We donated over $1000.00 to Oxfam.
And we are a work in progress with regard to our incomplete interiors. Come and try our food for what it is. Our interpretations of our favourite family recipes served with love.
Our latest hurdle - a name change - means that those that knew us as Red Ginger will now know us as GalanGal.
GalanGal is a fresh fusion of asian and western flavours.
