CHARMING ATMOSPHERE & AUTHENTIC ITALIAN CUISINE
Edward and Josie met in their late teens in a young Italian Club (La Giovane Italia club) in Buffalo and married in 1967. After having a daughter (AnnaMaria) and later a son (Anthony) and a 3 year stint in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam war, Edward, a graduate of Briant and Stratton school of business, became a W.T.Grant store manager in North Tonowanda, N.Y.
In 1975 Ed & Josie, along with their kids moved to San Francisco to open Vikings Giant Submarine, one of the first submarine sandwich shops in northern California and soon became a chain of 8 units.
In 1979 the desire to open a full scale Italian restaurant led to the sale of the sub shops and the opening of “La Trattoria Pasta House” one of the first true pasta restaurants in California, making homemade pasta with the help of mamma Annita Pizzuti in the exhibition pasta room near the restaurant's front window.
A few years later (1984) Ed and Josie opened “Baci Caffe” in Mill Valley, California to rave reviews from the San Francisco Chronicle, Marin Independent Journal…
Many other restaurants followed in the 90's and 2000's.
More recently, Chianti Cucina in Novato, Caffe Giostra in Petaluma and Don Antonio Trattoria in Tiburon, all in Marin or Sonoma Counties, California.
Recently – 2012
After several visits to Florida, Ed & Josie chose Sarasota for their retirement home, but soon discovered that retirement was not for them. After spending the 2012 summer at their new home in the Oaks country club, playing some gulf and visiting many local restaurants, they saw a need for their type of Italian cuisine and their way of operating. When the J.Ryans location, on 3900 clark Road became available, they decided to buy the building and the restaurant to build their Chianti Ristorante Italiano. After extensive remodeling and upgrading of the current facility and hiring local executive chef Al Massa (previously executive chef of Michaels on East & Eat Here who had spent a 10 year stint with Emeral Lagasse in New Orleans prior to moving to Sarasota), Ed and Josie collaborated with Al on the menu and with their combined expertise and talent have been quitely building a repeat customer base.
We Love Sarasota and plan on being here with Chianti for many years.
Your Hosts Josie & Ed invite you to experience our Italian style of cuisine and our warm hospitality soon...
See you at Chianti !
Enjoy Italian Food-Experience
