Maxwell's Bar & Restaurant
Welcome Maxwell's to Tribeca, -- New life is breathed into a historic location.
First established in 1938, Maxwell's was founded by Joe Maxwell's, an Irish immigrant who ran a local pub frequented by City Hall’s Attorney’s, politicians, reporters and many Fordham Alumni. Back then it was all about the simple things in life; good friends, mug beers, and a delicious sizzling steak. The location has since been home to many restaurants, yet none of which have been able to capture the true magic of Joe Maxwell.
Maxwell’s reopened in is original location this summer, at 59 Reade Street, Tribeca, between Broadway & Church St, close to City hall and Civic Center. The new proprietors, Michael Casey and Alex Tortolani, both Fordham alumni, wanted to make sure the bar stayed true to its roots and did what they could to keep the bar an homage to the original location. Their collective background of New York fine dining and Fordham education brings character again to this lower Manhattan eatery. They took the restaurant that was once there before it, an old Italian eatery named Spaghetti Western, to the next level by adding a few modern tweaks to its old school charm.
The location is complete with a long, inviting bar, intimate Edison lighting, and comfortable booths for dining. The dining room décor is timeless with nostalgic photos of Fordham alumni and a 1929 horse that Joe Maxwell, "made his money on." Maxwell’s offers a vast seasonal menu filled with the ultimate comfort food, including; The Double Decker Turkey Club, Flat Bread Pizzas, BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, Baked Mac 'n Cheese, and a variety of delicious Burgers. A must try is the mouth watering Maxwell's Burger: Sliced Angus Rib Eye, Red Wine Gravy, Sauteed Onions, Topped with a Fried Egg & Horse Raddish Mayo!
Open Monday through Friday starting at 11:00 a.m. and closing at 2am. Saturday and Sunday the doors open at 10:30am for Family Friendly BRUNCH. The bar offers Happy Hour deals to the busy work crowd from 11 a.m to 5 p.m Enjoy ($2 Frozen Domestic Mugs & $3 Domestic Bottles ) 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Specials include: ($4 Mug Drafts and $5 Wines & Sangria). The location is also available for private parties. Delivery is also available Monday - Friday.
